Last post about Fallas... La Crema

La Crema... The burning of all of the fallas. Yes, all of that hard work put into to creating those huge figures and they are all destroyed. Again... Valencia's obsession with fire! It was pretty cool actually. While we watched different fallas burn, people were shouting "¡Que bonita! ¡Que preciosa!" I don't really find things burning pretty/beautiful, but hey the Valencians looovvee it. I was happy to be a part of fallas, and I really enjoyed it. BUT I am sooooo happy it's over!

There are fireworks (more fireworks-- I have seen more fireworks in one night than I have in my whole life) then the burning starts!

This is the traditional Fallas scarf that people wear during the week. At the Crema you put it over your face to keep from inhaling the smoke.

This is the falla in the main square of Valencia, Plaza de Ayuntamiento. There were crazy fireworks and then the falla just blew up. It was so quick, unlike the first one where the fire started at the bottom. This one was the coolest one to see, since there were explosives inside of it!

This one was about 2 mins away from my dorm. I liked this one a lot! While it was burning it just fell forward and scared everyone lol.

Virgen Maria

With all of the drinking, partying, fire, and basically the destruction of the city, it was easy to forget that this celebration is actually about a Saint. There's a huge Virgin Mary that's made of wood, then covered with flowers! It takes a full day to put all of the flowers on the Virgin. The falleras give the flower offerings.

The food of fallas. Churros with cholocate and bunuelos with sugar and sometimes white chocolate. They're kind of like donuts, but less flavor (hence the chocolate and sugar).

Here's me trying a white chocolate covered bunuelo-- see my excitement. lol

Here's an example of one of the many bars that are all around the city.

Fire Parade

Another look into Valencia's obsession with fire. This fire parade was crazy!! They had huge sparklers that would spray fire out into the crowd and we were all ducking to avoid being burned by the ashes. My poor friend got burned on her back... It was really cool, but a little dangerous!

This is a small dose of the parade!

Amazing Fireworks

Every night there were fireworks at the rio! This city lovessssss fire and their pyrotechs are great! The shows last for 20-25 mins.
