Fireworks aka Valencia is blowing up
Everyday for the past 2 weeks there have been "mascletas" at 2 pm. This is another part of Fallas. This event takes place in Plaza de Ayuntamiento, a huge central Plaza in Valencia. The mascletas consist of the loudest firecrackers ever made plus some fireworks. They aren't really colorful since it's midday. It is ridiculously loud, and we can hear it loud and clear on campus which is at least 12 miles away. It lasts for 6 minutes. If you're at the plaza during a mascleta, your insides shake. (If you didn't know what was going on, you'd probably think the city was being bombed.) Then, every night at midnight there are fireworks! Seeing these Valencian fireworks shows, the U.S. pyrotechs are amateurs. Every night there's a different pyrotech that does the show. It's like a competition of who can do the best show, which basically means who can be the loudest. Plus we are very close to where the fireworks are set off. The pyrotech is on one side of the main square in the plaza and we're on the opposite side. That's probably why they're sooooo loud.
